Fitting a Bluetooth & USB to a VW RCD 510 Without MDI Media-In

The VW RCD 510, 1st generation, without MDI does not support features such as Bluetooth music streaming, Bluetooth hands-free calling, USB ports or charging functions from factory. Which version of the VW RCD 510 do I have?

This radio model exists in two fundamentally different versions.

RCD 510 without MDI / Media-In

  • Identifier 1: The part number helps. The versions without MDI use part number XXX 035 190 or XXX 057 190.
  • Identifier 2: If there is an AUX port, it is located directly on the radio unit, not separate from it.

RCD 510 with MDI / Media-In

  • Identifier 1: In the center console or the glove compartment, an AUX-In or MEDIA-In port is installed.
  • Identifier 2: Versions with MDI use part number XXX 035 195 or XXX 057 195.
  • Identifier 3: The radio menu shows entries such as Bluetooth Audio or MEDIA IN.

Installation

The VW RCD 510 can be removed and installed without needing a workshop. The original radio is fastened with screws. Typically, TORX T20 screws are used. These screws are located underneath trim panels that can be removed quickly and without damage using our TORX tool set TORX tool set. Connection options

The factory connectors determine the retrofit options. The radio uses a Quadlock connector. The correct slot for the streaming box is the one for the external CD changer.CD changer connection
